Indian mythology said yes — with precise, detailed descriptions — millennia before the Fermi Paradox and Kardashev Scale started asking the same question.
Do Higher Beings Exist? Start With the Logic.
The universe contains two trillion galaxies. Consciousness expresses itself through every possible form — from bacteria to humans. Is it even remotely logical that the human nervous system represents the maximum possible awareness available to consciousness in this entire infinite cosmos?

Continuing from last blog
In our last exploration we asked a deeply personal question: Why is consciousness imprisoned in a body? If consciousness is the most fundamental, most powerful reality that exists — why does it experience the universe through such limited instruments? A human body that sees only a narrow band of light, hears only a fraction of sound, lives for barely a century — and calls this experience complete?
We explored the beautiful answer — that embodiment is not a prison but a chosen vehicle. That consciousness enters limitation to experience what the infinite cannot experience as itself. That the wave is not a mistake.
But that answer opened a new question — one even more extraordinary. If consciousness can choose to experience through a human body with its limited range — can it also choose to experience through forms with a vastly greater range? Forms that perceive dimensions we cannot? Beings that live for cosmic timescales? Intelligences so far beyond the human that from our perspective they would appear — divine?
This blog is the answer to that question. Yes — consciousness also experiences this universe with far greater power. Not just through limited human bodies — but through beings of vastly expanded awareness, vastly extended existence, and vastly deeper perception. Indian philosophy mapped them. Modern science is now finding the same answer through a completely different door.
Do higher beings exist — beings with significantly more expanded consciousness than humans? The universe is 13.8 billion years old. Humans in our current form have existed for perhaps 300,000 years. There are stars similar to our sun — capable of supporting life — that formed 10 billion years ago. If consciousness expands through increasingly complex forms — as four billion years of evolution on Earth alone suggests — then the human form is almost certainly not the most sophisticated vehicle it has developed.
Not even close. And this is exactly what Indian philosophy — and now modern science — both suggest.

Do Higher Beings Exist in Indian Cosmology? The Answer Is Already There.
Indian cosmology
The Spectrum of Beings — India’s Complete Map
Do higher beings exist? Indian cosmology — described across the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas and epics — never asked this as a question. It took it as a given. These texts described a universe populated by many different orders of beings at many different levels of consciousness — and mapped them with extraordinary precision.

Consciousness
The rare ability to recognize the nature of consciousness itself. Precious — but not the summit.
Devas
Luminous Beings

Consciousness
inhabiting subtler dimensions — with awareness far beyond human capacity and vastly extended lifespans.
Asuras
Power Beings
⚡Enormous intelligence and capability — but oriented toward ego and separation rather than unity and liberation.
Rishis
Liberated Sages
🔥Transcended ordinary human limitations
Consciousness
existing at the boundary between individual and the infinite.

Do Higher Beings Exist in Two Types? Devas vs Asuras Explained

The word Asura is often translated as “demon” — but this is a misleading translation. In the earliest Vedic texts, Asuras were simply powerful beings. The deeper meaning comes from Sanskrit: not aligned with the luminous. The fundamental difference between Deva and Asura is not intelligence or capability — it is orientation of consciousness.
✦ Deva — The Luminous
⚡Asura — The Powerful
- Oriented toward unity and recognition ofconsciousnessin all things
- Aligned with Dharma — the nature of reality
- Intelligence in service of liberation
- Power combined with wisdom
- Sees others as expressions of the same consciousness
- Oriented toward the individual self and separation
- Extraordinary intelligence — often more capable than Devas
- Masters of material reality and accumulation
- Power without alignment to the nature of reality
- Sees others as objects to be used or dominated
In story after story — the Asuras are more powerful than the Devas. Ego-driven intelligence is extraordinarily effective at accumulating power in the material world. But it cannot find peace — and ultimately cannot sustain what it builds — because it builds on the foundation of separation, which is ultimately false.
Part Two
Do Higher Beings Exist? Now Modern Science Is Asking the Same Question.
The Fermi Paradox — Where Is Everybody?
In 1961, astronomer Frank Drake created an equation estimating the number of technologically advanced civilizations in our galaxy. Even with conservative estimates — it suggests thousands to millions of advanced civilizations in the Milky Way alone. Yet we have received no confirmed contact. This is the Fermi Paradox — named after physicist Enrico Fermi who asked simply: “If there are so many advanced civilizations — where is everybody?”
The most compelling answer: perhaps truly advanced civilizations have evolved beyond the kind of radio wave communication we are listening for — the way we have evolved beyond smoke signals. Perhaps they exist in dimensions of reality that our physical instruments cannot yet detect. Each of these answers resonates strikingly with descriptions of Devas and higher beings in Indian cosmology — beings whose consciousness operates in subtler dimensions intersecting with ours only occasionally.
scale of time
The Scale of Cosmic Time
Here is perhaps the most compelling argument. The universe is 13.8 billion years old. Stars capable of supporting life formed as early as 10 billion years ago. If life developed on any of those early planets — there could be civilizations billions of years more advanced than us. What would a civilization one million years more advanced than us look like? We cannot even imagine it.

Humans Now
We have not yet mastered all energy on our own planet. Still burning fossil fuels. Still limited to one world.
I
Planetary
Masters all energy available on their planet. Weather control, global communication, mastery of physical matter at planetary scale.
II
Stellar
Masters all energy of their star. Harnesses the entire output of their sun. From our perspective — their capabilities would appear completely magical.
III+
Galactic+
At what point on this scale does the distinction between an advanced civilization and what Indian tradition calls a Deva or cosmic being become meaningless?
We are not the destination of the evolutionary process. We are — most likely — somewhere in the early middle of it. The beings Indian tradition calls Devas may simply be what consciousness looks like further along the same trajectory that produced humans from single-celled organisms. Not supernatural. Not magical. Simply — more evolved.
Part Three
The Deva-Asura Story as Cosmic Psychology
The inner war
The War in Heaven Is the War Within

Every tradition has stories of conflict between higher beings — Devas vs Asuras in Indian tradition, Angels vs Demons in Abrahamic tradition, Olympians vs Titans in Greek tradition. These stories are strikingly consistent across cultures that had no contact with each other. Why? Because they are describing something real — genuine features of the structure of consciousness at every level.
The Deva-Asura conflict is the eternal conflict between two orientations of consciousness — played out on a cosmic scale to make it visible. But it is not only happening in some distant realm.
The Conflict Happening Inside You — Right Now
✦ Deva Quality Within
The part that wants to be generous
The part that seeks understanding
The part that recognizes consciousness in others
The part that acts from love
⚡ Asura Quality Within
The part that grasps and hoards
The part that seeks power
The part that sees others as objects
The part that acts from fear
The myth is the microcosm made macrocosm. The inner drama projected onto the cosmic screen — so we can see it clearly. And the message of every Deva-Asura story ever told: power without wisdom destroys itself. Intelligence without consciousness is ultimately self-defeating. Capability without alignment with the nature of reality cannot last.
The answer
Do Higher Beings Exist? Yes — And Here Is What That Means for You

Do higher beings exist — Devas, aliens, advanced civilizations with vastly expanded consciousness? From the logic of scale, from the trajectory of consciousness evolution, from Indian cosmology — the answer across every framework explored here is yes. But here is the most extraordinary thing:
The same consciousness that would make a Deva vastly more aware than a human — is the same consciousness that is reading these words right now.
The difference between you and a Deva — if Devas exist — is not a difference in the fundamental nature of consciousness. It is a difference in how clearly and fully that consciousness is expressed. How much of the karmic covering has been removed. How deeply the identification with limitation has dissolved.
The Devas are not above you looking down. They are ahead of you on the same path — pointing back — saying: “Keep going. This is the way.” 🙏
The spectrum of consciousness is real. You are on it. And the direction is available to you right now.
“The human being is the meeting point of all worlds — below and above, material and spiritual, time and eternity.”
— Taittiriya Upanishad
“You are not a human being having a spiritual experience. You are a spiritual being having a human experience.”
— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
“Perhaps the Devas look at the human struggle — the courage it takes to seek truth while fully embodied — and feel not superiority, but profound, humble respect.”
— Inspired by Indian Tradition
